Memorial Day weekend at the beach was dreamy. There were long runs through lush lanes, there were lobster rolls eaten by the pound, and there were ice cream cones relished. And then there were maxis by the millions. Seriously, there were maxis here, there, and everywhere. At dinner, on the beach, shopping. It was maxi heaven. This is one of my faves- from Lulu Lemon. Soft and luxurious- and only $98!
We are seeing neon everywhere this season (and thinking about neon sleepwear and to to make that work!) Little pops of neon here and there are the key to making the look modern and not a total ’80’s flashback. My top 3 favorite and super simple ways to infuse this trend seamlessly into your existing wardrobe (as spotted on the streets of NYC) are: #1 Neon thong sandals #2 Skinny neon belts #3 (my obsession) Neon accessories. I have seen many teenagers sporting this AMAZING leather messenger bag. Worn slung across the body with the buckles opened, it is absolutely perfect, and if I hadn’t seen it on many a ‘tween, I would be sporting it too.
Reality check time! It’s raining in New York. Pouring, really. A cold, driving rain. And I am busy working on pajamas and thinking about how much I love pajamas. Nothing is more comfortable, makes you feel more relaxed and easy, and comforts the soul like slipping into your favorite pajamas. When things get crazy, I challenge you to put on your pjs and attempt to not feel better. It just doesn’t work that way. PJs are a stress panacea. What a great thing to be working on.
Anyone who knows me knows that I am the definition of a high/low shopper. I shop everywhere, anywhere, and all the time. One of my favorite “secret” shopping spots to hit used to be Loehmanns. I lived right near the Seventh Avenues store and would find the most amazing designer pieces there, almost weekly. I think Loehmann’s has changed in recent years (maybe it was the whole Chapter 11 thing) but it seems my luck has run out at that store. So today, while trend spotting in Midtown, I happened into the Daffy’s on 57th and Lex and found the most amazing selection of European children’s shoes. And all of them were $17.99! We have new favorite product at the Dream Lounge, it’s BB Cream- and if you haven’t seen it everywhere yet, believe me you will. BB Cream is a cross between a primer, a moisturizer, and a sheer foundation with all of the benefits of each, but completely non-greasy. BB Creams exploded in Asia, so much so that they essentially put foundation out of business in Korea. We have tried quite few but one of the best is Smashbox Photoready BB Cream. Its amazing.
One of the best things about living in New York is the relative proximity to every major thing happening within its urban web. A good example of this notion is that I live literally 2 blocks away from the Met, it is but a skip and a hop away. My street literally dead ends onto its famed entry steps. And just last night, said steps were under the feet of the most fashionable, most famous, most beautiful, and most well dressed of Manhattanites. It was the annual Costume Institute Gala, and it was live-streaming on Amazon.com and happening at the end of my block (while I was watching my kids splash around in the tub.) Its May market week in New York which is truly a great time to see how our stores are feeling about our product and to hear how retail in general is doing.
